What Kind of Dog Should I Get?
My family is deciding on whether or not to get a dog
I kind of want one but only if it's a very low maintenance
3 people live in the house, my brother, mom and I. No one is there during the day (we get home at around 4pm). We have a medium sized house, basement, 4 bedroom, and not much of a lawn
Were looking for a lazy, medium sized dog that can manage itself with no one around
any suggestions?
(also any tips for raising a dog would be verrrryyy useful)
Answer:
You should get a bagel hound. They are beagle/basset mixes, and great! My family has one and he's perfect. He's smart (learns tricks and stuff within fifteen minutes), sweet (he's never bitten anyone or thing other than his food. If my mom tells him to discipline he'll mouth the person, but it doesn't really hurt), good to our house (no one's home all day and he just sleeps), he's great with other animals (we have two cats, one kitten, four rats, and two gerbils. We also had rabbits while he was around and he gets along great with everyone), and he loves pepole; especially kids!
He does shed, but the only places its noticable is his blanket, but he spends most of the day there. Oh, and when the weather gets warm his rear end sheds excessively. For whatever reason, its only his rear that does that. Being lazy, he doesn't play but for five minutes at a time. he also tires out on walks within the first five minutes.
He's adorable, but ours is a little out of prportion. Its nothing terribly bad (he's not affected at all), its just funny how his tail, head, and hind legs are a little small compared to the rest of him.
When he was a puppy, he was kinda bad with getting his nails clipped, but playing with his paws at home ended that. Its also kinda hard to find the right size harness for him because he isn't small, but he isn't medium either. This could be different for other bagels though, because ours hs mini beagle in him as well as beagle and basset hound.
Like I said, he's not exactly medium, but he certainly isn't a lap dog! He's really heavy too, but that's because he's part basset and does like to eat quite a bit.
Oh, and another good thing about bagels is they're protective of their family. One has on more street isn't filled with the nicest people, and our dog doesn't like them one bit. He can sense when people are bad and growls and everything at them. Well, I don't know if they're bad, so much as if they are around drugs. Our not so nice neighbors do and deal drugs.
I would also suggest getting an older dog. Puppies need constant care and attention …
A lazy medium sized dog … well, I would suggest either a terrier or spaniel. I've had spaniels for years, and once they get older, they tend to slow down and appreciate just sitting at your feet hanging out. I had Cocker spaniels, and they have been my favorite by far. They don't get too big, up to 30 lbs, but that's the absolute max.
I would also say to look into shelter dogs. They are generally older, but that's not always the case. They need homes and are not looking for much, just love. Wow, I sound like such a sap. Sorry.
As long as you have water and maybe enough food for lunch, a Cocker should be fine for a whole day. I used to work and come home for lunch but then not get home until 6 or 7 at night, and the two dogs were fine. I hope this helps!
i would suggest a stuffed dog. Even if you could find a lazy dog, lazy dogs still want to be around their humans they still need training and exercise cause they still get bored and when they get bored and noone is around they will find ways to entertain themselve by chewing barking and destroying whatever they can get ahold of. a lazy dog is still a pack animal it still needs lots of attention to be happy you should get a cat. what you just describe is a cat. cat don't need much attention they don't need to be let outside to potty the don't need hardly any training just food and water. your purrfect pet is a cat. good luck
A Teddy bear it is a cross between a Bichon and a Shih tzu. They get around 20 lbs and love people, can fend for them self's during the day. They are easy to potty train and are very cute.. Puppies need attention when you first get them they love playing and make sure there is not stuff they can chew up during the day.
Most dogs are pretty high maintenance regardless of breed. All dogs need socialization, exercise, and play time. Some dogs may be happy just laying around the house all day, but it's not very good for them to be sleeping all of the time. If you want low maintenance…get a fish :-p
i would recommend something like a cocker spaniel,
i had one and all we had to do is take him to the groomer every now and again to trim up his fur. Cocker spaniels can be let inside or outside, which ever works for you. a
nd mine didn't care about being left all alone most days…but when we were home he wanted lots of attention
You should adopt one from the shelter. There are many dogs that have been threw alot and would be loyal to you and your family. Besides they need the love more then Purebreads.

if your not going to be home with it, hire a dog sitter, board it or dont get one. You shouldn't get any animal if you don't have time for it. As for breeds, bernese mountain dogs, mastiffs and some others
