Tips on Photographing Pets

You’ve been wanting to take stunning photos of your pet, but have not figured out how to get started. You have stumbled upon this article because you don’t want to end up with plain, boring photos of your pet. Not to worry, these tips will get you taking awesome pet photos.

1. The best lighting for your pet is natural light. Window light is great, or if you can, take your pet outside. Unfortunately flash photography is not that great for pets. The flash may scare them, and it also makes them have red eyes in photographs.

2. Position yourself so that you are on the same level as your pet. Lie on the ground or crouch down. This is a good idea because you will appear less intimidating to your pet, while gaining a new appreciation of your surroundings. Your pet will curiously investigate the lens, making for an amusing photo.

3. Take the time to learn about your pet’s personality and unique ways. By knowing more about them, you will have more fun and it will be easier to photograph them.

4. Try switching out lenses, using different shutter speeds, or different aperture settings. A wide-angle lens lets you fit more pet into your picture, a macro lens lets you get closer, a fast shutter speeds catches your pet in motion, and a smaller aperture creates a blurred background.

5. Don’t forget to be patient. In the beginning, your pet may be camera shy, but they will get more comfortable as the photo shoot progresses. Remember that your pet will sense if you are anxious and uncomfortable, so be calm and relaxed.

6. Expect the unexpected. You never know when you will get a good shot because pets are unpredictable. Try photographing them with their favorite toy, enjoying a treat, or frolicking in the park.

Have fun with your pet! Now you can display photographs of your furry friend looking like a rock star. Check out pet magazines or photos online for more ideas.
